Auditioning

General Audition Info
Auditions are held Tuesday and Wednesday nights of First Week each quarter on the third floor of Cobb. They begin at 7pm and go until 10 each night. On Thursday morning, lists of actors called back for roles in the mainstage and curtains and cubes shows will be posted on the UT callboard outside the First Floor Theater. Callbacks are held Thursday night, either in Cobb or one of the theaters. Workshops are cast without callbacks.
While audition sides are typically posted online at least a week before auditions, directors do not expect you to have prepared their side in advance, and a cold reading is completely acceptable.
All interested students are encouraged to audition. An info session will be held in the Francis X. Kinahan Theater on the 3rd Floor of the Reynolds Club on the first Tuesday of the Quarter at 6pm.
Casting
If you audition for multiple shows in the same quarter, before you leave you will be asked to fill out a Last Showdown Form listing the shows you've auditioned for in the order of your preference.
At UT, casting is accomplished through arbitration between the directors of the shows. This happens in two tiers. First Mainstage and Curtains & Cubes shows will cast actors, and then Workshops. Since no two shows can cast the same actor (with the exception of New Work Week), sometimes there is irresolvable conflict between directors about which show should get an actor, and in that case, the Last Showdown Form is used as a last resort to resolve the conflict.
Please note that the preferences listed will, in most cases, never be seen by anyone. They will not affect the show you are cast in unless there is a conflict between directors. If you have a clear preference between shows, please feel free to list that on the audition forms of the individual shows.
Cast lists are posted on the UT Callboard by 5pm on the Friday of First Week. Please be sure to check the callboard even if you are not called back, as you may still be cast in a show.
