Production Manual

Introduction

This manual is meant to serve as a reference to you in your days in University Theater (UT) at the University of Chicago. Though UT and Theater and Performance Studies (TAPS) work closely together in our co-curricular program, the focus of this manual will be UT production. Whether you have accepted a role or are designing a set, every participant in UT is encouraged to READ THIS MANUAL.

UT can be a little overwhelming, especially when you're trying to do something that you've never done before: hang a light, use a screw gun, or call a show. While this guide can't teach you those skills, it can provide you with the basic outline for each position, policies and guidelines, and other information about UT.
While this manual can answer such questions as who's who on staff; where is the Design Lab; and how do I propose a show; remember that the professional staff, student staff, and Committee will be your best resource for learning about our processes. Don't hesitate to ask us. The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked. A complete, bound, paper copy of this manual can be found in the UT/TAPS Lounge. Additionally, the website and the server (which will be explained later) have most of the forms, directions, and information you will need. If you are interested in a major, minor, or taking classes, please also look at http://taps.uchicago.edu.

We hope you enjoy working as part of University Theater or studying in TAPS!
