35mm: A Musical Exhibition
What does it mean to “capture life” in a single frame? Are we defined by the moments “in focus” or the ones in between? 35mm: A Musical Exhibition challenges audiences to sink their teeth into a musical that doesn’t offer answers, only moments, stopped in time. In a thrilling collaboration between music, dance, and design, 35mm features an eclectic selection of songs created alongside a series of photographs; exploring themes of life, love, and loss and asking us a deceptively simple question: What is it all for?
A free preview will take place Thursday, Apr. 24.
SLIMEGRIMECRIME
By Off-Off Campus
Experience Slimeville, where your typical slimeballs are actually the heroes of this story and squeaky-clean go-getters are as mucky as they come. Crime runs rampant in Slimeville—residents leap at the opportunity to rob their neighbors for all they’ve got, government officials vote to feed the ever-growing rat population, and the FDA is a word whispered amongst bad children who should be punished.
Cactus Flower
An aging nurse. Her playboy boss, who she’s in love with. His uncomfortably-younger girlfriend, who thinks he’s married with kids. And her playwright neighbor, who saved her life.
Dr. Julian Winston has a lot of relationships to juggle: Work wives, fake wives, really-wanna-be wives. And he’s not equipped to handle half of one of those relationships. When his girlfriend, Toni, tries to kill herself because their relationship isn’t going anywhere, he proposes to her. But she thinks he’s married—because that’s what he told her. When he says he’s getting a divorce, she insists on meeting his wife (so she won’t be a ‘home-breaker’), and he must enlist his lovelorn, all-business assistant, Stephanie. But, of course, Toni can tell that Stephanie’s in love. And from here, the lie snowballs…
This screwball comedy, adapted from a French play by Barillet & Grédy, has been described as “funny,” and as having “flower power.” Don’t believe us, or don’t know what that means? Come find out for yourself, either way!
A free preview will take place Thursday, May 8.
The Tempest
Prospero, a once renowned noble and artist, and his daughter Miranda are stranded on a deserted island, accompanied only by Prospero’s magical powers and magical servants Ariel and Caliban. To enact revenge against his traitorous brother Antonio, Prospero shipwrecks a boat full of nobles onto his island. In the storm the young Prince Ferdinand is separated from the group, in his haze he stumbles upon Miranda, and the two fall in love (much to the chagrin of Prospero). Meanwhile Caliban pressures the nobles’ servants Stephano and Trinculo to kill Prospero and take over the island. As all of this happens Prospero tries in vain to keep control over his domain. Magic abounds, time slips and falls, and ultimately no one is completely sure what is real.
A free preview will take place Thursday, May 15.
